The Web Font Guide

Where can I buy my font?

Most fonts have to be bought from a specific foundry but others are available by subscription via sites like fonts.com and myfonts.com. The best way to find out where your font can be bought from is to Google it.

What format should my font be in?

When you purchase web font licensing, you receive a package of font files that typically include EOT, TTF, WOFF and WOFF2. TrueType Font (TTF) is the most widely used font type and is compatible with most web browsers. However, we recommend having as many different formats as possible just to be safe. See the browser compatibility table below.

The step by step

  1. Find out where you can buy your font by Googling it.

  2. Have a think about how many weights you actually need, there’s no point buying the whole font family if you’re only using Regular and Bold.

  3. Purchase the font, the exact process will differ from site to site. Some websites charge a one off payment and others offer subscriptions based on the number of website views you get.

  4. Send us any files / instructions you receive and we’ll add the fonts to your site
