Renaming images with SEO friendly file names

Before uploading images to your site you should give them SEO friendly file names. We use this method in-house to optimise your initial content. If you are populating sections of the site yourself during the build process or swapping/adding new images in the future you should follow this guide.

Renaming an image

  1. Prepare a template filename in a text document/note pad - use your brand name and location alongside keywords to create this, for example ours could be;

    “david-and-george-web-design-edinburgh-london-uk”

  2. Highlight the template filename text then right click and select “Copy”

  3. Find the image file you wish to rename on your computer, right click on it and select the rename option

  4. Paste in your template file name and add any other keywords relevant to the image into the file name

  5. Click off the image to save - you can now upload this to your website
