Pirates of The Internet: Scam Alert!
WEBSITE-OWNER SAFETY GUIDE FOR RECOGNISING SCAM EMAILS
A Simple Guide on How to RECOGNISE SCAM EMAILS
When you launch a new website, your design may catch the eye—but it’s your words that convince people to stay, explore, and take action. Great text content is clear, engaging, and written with your visitors in mind. Here’s how to craft copy that keeps customers hooked.
1. Recognising Scam Emails
Scammers often pretend to be your website provider or designer. They may claim:
“We inspected your website and found issues.”
“Your site is not compliant.”
“Action required to avoid suspension.”
They frequently use urgent subject lines like: ACTION NEEDED: Website Compliance Update Required Immediate Security Review Needed
If the tone feels alarming or unexpected, treat it as suspicious.
2. How to Protect Yourself
Always check the sender’s domain. If it’s not your official provider’s domain, delete it.
Never click links or buttons in an email you weren’t expecting.
Do not reply — scammers often use replies to confirm your email is active.
Report the email to your inbox provider and forward it to scam@netcraft.com.
Ask us directly if you’re unsure. We’re always happy to confirm whether a message is genuine.
3. Strengthening Your Website Security
Every page of your website should have a clear goal. For example:
Use strong passwords (12+ characters, mix of letters, numbers, symbols).
Enable 2FA on your Squarespace account and email account.
Keep your browser and devices updated to reduce vulnerabilities.
Review third‑party integrations and remove anything you no longer use.
Limit admin access — only give full permissions to people who truly need it
Final Thought from David & George: Staying Vigilant
Scammers are becoming more sophisticated. Staying cautious, double‑checking unexpected messages, and keeping your login details secure will protect your website and your data.
